Can you believe we’re already halfway through the year?
Six months are behind us. Six months are still ahead.
The question isn’t whether God still has something for you this year. The question is whether we’ll be too distracted to recognize it.
This year at ALC, our word is Rehoboth.
“For now the LORD has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.” (Genesis 26:22, NKJV)
God makes room, but we must choose what fills that room.
Rehoboth isn’t simply about having more space. It’s about creating space for the right things. If we fill every open space with noise, hurry, and distraction, we can miss what God made room to do in our lives.
“Through wisdom a house is built… by knowledge the rooms are filled…” (Proverbs 24:3–4)
“…redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15–16)
Over the past few weeks, I had the opportunity to travel through Hong Kong, Macau, and Manila. Every city was alive. Phones were everywhere. People walked while texting, ate while watching videos, and waited in line with their eyes fixed on a screen. It reminded me that distraction isn’t just a technology problem. It’s a human problem.
Long before smartphones existed, Martha was distracted (Luke 10:40). Jesus didn’t rebuke her for serving. He corrected her because she had become distracted while serving. Mary chose intimacy before activity.
After one of the busiest ministry days of His life, the disciples told Jesus, “Everyone is looking for You.”
The crowds were growing. Ministry opportunities were multiplying. The demand was real.
In today’s world, we’d probably say Jesus was breaking the internet. He had gone viral. He was trending everywhere. Wherever He went, people recognized Him. Crowds followed Him. Everyone wanted a miracle. Everyone wanted a moment.
If Instagram had existed, His reels would’ve been everywhere. Every miracle would’ve been clipped. Every sermon livestreamed. Every healing shared millions of times.
Yet at the very moment everyone wanted more of Him, Jesus quietly slipped away to pray.
The world would’ve told Him to capitalize on the momentum. Build the platform. Keep feeding the algorithm.
Instead, Jesus protected the one thing that made His ministry powerful: uninterrupted time with His Father.
One of the greatest enemies of hearing God’s voice isn’t always sin. Sometimes it’s urgency.
Millions are following the World Cup right now. I certainly am. But I’ve been asking myself one question:
Am I following Jesus with the same attention that I’m following everything else?
Habakkuk said, “I will stand my watch… and watch to see what He will say to me.” Before Habakkuk spoke, he watched. Before Jesus moved, He prayed. Before Mary served, she sat.
What if July became our watchtower? What if July also became our Rehoboth?

Six months remain. That’s enough time for God to rewrite your story. Don’t wait until December. Start today.

Let’s set our faces like flint.
Let’s redeem the time.
Let’s remove the distractions.
Let’s make room for what matters most.
